History of Dar Al Nur Community Center

Islamic Growth

Founded in 1999 as the Somali Muslim Association of North America (SMANA), Dar Al Nur is a 501(c)(3) non-profit religious organization based in Falls Church, Virginia. Established by a group of visionary brothers, the center was created to serve the growing Muslim community in Northern Virginia by providing a space for Islamic growth, Quranic studies, and communal prayer.

Over the past two decades, Dar Al Nur has been a cornerstone of the community, offering a wide range of programs for youth and adults. The center has produced numerous Quran memorizers (Hufadh) who have gone on to lead Taraweeh prayers in mosques throughout the region. Additionally, Dar Al Nur has hosted insightful lectures on Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh) and Quranic exegesis (Tafsir).

For the past 22 years, Dar Al Nur has operated as a tenant at the Rock Spring Professional Center. While this location has served the community well, the center has faced increasing limitations due to space constraints and rising operational costs. The COVID-19 pandemic further exacerbated these challenges as the center was forced to close its doors temporarily, yet continued to incur rental expenses.

Serve The Community

To address these limitations and better serve the community, Dar Al Nur has embarked on an ambitious plan to acquire a new facility. This strategic move will enable the center to expand its programs, accommodate a growing membership, and create a more sustainable future.

A significant fundraising campaign has been initiated with a target of raising $300,000 by October 2024. These funds will be allocated towards the down payment for the new facility and initial operational expenses.

Dar Al Nur envisions a larger, more inclusive space that will serve as a hub for the Muslim community, offering a wide range of religious, educational, and social services. By acquiring a new facility, the center aims to strengthen its position as a vital resource for the community and ensure its continued growth and prosperity.
